Dear Professor Uyeshiba:
On behalf of the people of Hawaii, may I extend my warmest welcome and aloha to you and your party.
Your timely visit to our 50th State will, I am sure, further cement the goodwill that now exists between the United States and Japan. It will also strengthen the tremendous popularity that Aikido now enjoys in our State.
May I also congratulate you for the completion of the Aiki Headquarters on Waialae Avenue. I hope sincerely that the program which you have instituted will meet with wide acceptance in Hawaii, and that your visit will be both profitable and enjoyable.
Sincerely,
William F. Quinn
Governor of Hawaii
Dear Professor Uyeshiba:
I am very happy to welcome you to Hawaii, on behalf of our many residents who are interested in the art of aikido. There has been a tremendous increase in Hawaii in recent years in all the arts and customs of Japan, not only among our residents of Japanese ancestry, but also among other residents and among our tourists.
We in the City and County administration are interested in skills which can be adapted for protective work, and all our policemen are trained in judo, karate, or aikido. These ancient forms of defense have become the modern methods of effective physical control, for individual self-improvement and for group training.
It is a pleasure and a privilege to have you with us to demonstrate aikido, and I trust that your visit here will be enjoyable.
Sincerely,
Neal S.Blaisdell
Mayor City and County of Honolulu
